Canadian Dental Care Plan

What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?

The CDCP is a government-funded dental care program designed to help Canadians who don’t have private dental insurance and have a household income of less than $90,000 a year.

How Does It Work?

The plan helps cover part of the cost for dental treatments that prevent and manage oral health issues—supporting overall health and helping reduce the risk of more serious medical conditions.

How Can I Apply for the CDCP?

Eligible Canadians can apply online or by phone (1-833-537-4342, for TTY 1-833-677-6262).

Applications are being accepted in phases:

May 1: Ages 55–64

May 15: Ages 18–34

May 29: Ages 35–54

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) has its own fee guide, which sets the rates it will pay for covered dental services. These rates may be different from those in your provincial or territorial fee guide.

Out-of-pocket costs may apply.

Not all patients will receive full coverage under the CDCP. If your net family income is under $90,000, you may still be responsible for a co-payment—the portion of treatment costs you’ll need to pay yourself. This amount is based on your previous year’s tax return.

Important:

Co-payments or any fees not covered by the CDCP must be paid directly to your dental provider. Be sure to ask your dental office about any costs not covered before your appointment.

Health Canada will review your eligibility and, if approved, share your information with Sun Life to enroll you in the plan.
